Our Beginning and Purpose
The Riverview Lions Club was chartered on May 7, 2026. Our goal is to be a community resource that serves local residents, supports charitable organizations such as ECHO of Riverview, and provides health services including vision, hearing, and diabetes screenings.
The club also plans fundraising events that will support local and international charities.
Recycling Eyeglasses
The club collects used eyeglasses from local eye doctors. Reading glasses are provided to organizations such as Catholic Charities. Prescription glasses are forwarded to a warehouse in Ocoee, where they are taken apart and reassembled for use in our community and in areas around the world where they are needed.
Children’s Vision Screening
Identifying vision problems as early as possible can make a lasting difference. Club members have screened nearly 4,000 children between the ages of 2 and 16 over the past two years. We plan to continue this work and expand into hearing and diabetes screenings.
Bringing Holiday Joy
One of our projects has been playing Santa during the holidays. Members have entertained children at vendor events, restaurants, foster-family parties, and school events—all to support our community and put smiles on children’s faces.
Looking Ahead
We are always evaluating new ways to serve Riverview. Potential projects include:
- A scholarship award for graduating high school students
- A Dinner in the Dark to help participants understand the experience of blindness
- Community bingo events
- Vendor events where residents can meet club members
- Joining the Chamber of Commerce to stay connected to Riverview’s needs
We Serve
Lions clubs have served their communities for more than 100 years. Every community is different and has unique needs. Lions identify those needs and work to provide the resources that can help.
The Lions motto is “We Serve.”
Meet the Riverview Lions
We currently meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Riverview Public Library. Stop in, say hello, and get to know our members.
